چکیده

(Picea mariana (Mill.) B.S.P.) trees with gibberellin A4/7 (GA4/7) alone and in combination with root pruning increased both seed and pollen cone production in both 1991 and 1992. Combining GA4/7 and root pruning produced a larger increase in reproductive bud production than either treatment alone, but the complementary effects were less during the warm dry summer in 1991 than during the wet summer in 1992. Cytokinin applications reduced the stimulatory effects of GA4/7 and root pruning, and the degree of reduction varied with the amount and timing of application. Reduced reproductive bud production was attributed to cytokinin countering the effects of root pruning and natural drought on the GA4/7 response.

Influences of crown size and maturation on flower production and sex expression in Picea glauca treated with gibberellin A(4/7).

We evaluated the effects of exogenous gibberellin A(4/7) (GA(4/7)) on the production of seed and pollen cones in four stock types of Picea glauca (Moench) Voss. From 1987 to 1991, a combined treatment that included GA(4/7), root pruning and heat stress was applied to 5- to 10-year-old container-grown grafts, representing over 90 clones and originating from 17- to 27-year-old ortets. Hormonal tr...

Combining enhanced root and shoot growth reveals cross talk between pathways that control plant organ size in Arabidopsis.

Functionally distinct Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) genes that positively affect root or shoot growth when ectopically expressed were combined to explore the feasibility of enhanced biomass production. Enhanced root growth resulting from cytokinin deficiency was obtained by overexpressing CYTOKININ OXIDASE/DEHYDROGENASE3 (CKX3) under the control of the root-specific PYK10 promoter. Plants ...

Crosstalk of arabinogalactan protein, auxin, gibberellin, and callose in Al-treated Tea seedlings

Arabinogalactan proteins (AGP) are a class of cell surface plant peptidoglycans which have been implicated in root elongation and signal transduction pathways. AGPs function not only as markers of cellular identity but also as signaling molecules, which might initiate signal transduction. Aluminum promotes the elongation of tea (Camellia sinensis L.) roots. Although some mechanisms by which Al ...

Effects of explant age and strain of Agrobacterium rhizogenes on hairy roots induction in Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum– graecum L.)

Induced hairy roots by Agrobacterium rhizogenes are suitable organs for the production of secondary metabolites, due to the stability and high production of roots without phyhormones in a short time. Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum– graecum L.) is one of the most important medicinal plants with valuable medicinal compounds. For optimizing the hairy root induction of T. foenum-graecum L., six strai...

Plant Development: Size Matters, and It's All Down to Hormones

How do plants determine the number of dividing cells required to optimise root growth and ensure seedling establishment? The signals auxin, cytokinin and gibberellin control the balance between cell division and differentiation by regulating SHY2.
